Quick Intro and Starting Points

This is a basic wee blog to record my thoughts, ideas and general umms and ahhs regarding Module DES515 moving images and animation.
So if you are looking great insight into the mind of a genius you're on the wrong blog, keep going.
Otherwise lets get started !

Week one we really have dived straight into the work. Week one of final year has hit me hard and fast, but thankfully MI/Animation has given a juicy project a student could really dig their teeth into.

After rereading the brief five times to make sure i haven't missed some 2000 word essay or mortgage sized printing costs (that is looking scarily common in my final year) i'm already buzzing with ideas.

The brief is simple and straight forward, 'Project Homeplace' the only real restrictions are that it is based on a Seamus Heaney poem, and even at that its open to our own personal interpretation of his work.

I'll dive a little further in the next post with my ideas and brainstorming but initially i already have a good knowledge of how irish and homely Heaneys words come across.
Like every other GCSE student in Northern Ireland i studied Seamus Heaneys work in school, his words always reflected Ireland, the people, the countryside all in such an extremely visual way, so i can image i will have a tough time actually settling on one particular poem or idea.

Since his recent Death theres even more work and information about Heaney available, to give myself a good idea who he was and what his work means to others i asked peers and relatives of various ages that would've known of studied him, researched some local exhibits and researched his vast amounts of poetry to give myself a good idea on whats expected and what sort of direction i could and should take with this project.

At this point in my studies my biggest goal is to focus on specific areas of art and animation that im interested in and try and achieve new skills through that.

Although the project could be film based or a unique type of animation, i would like my portfolio to have examples of various 2d animation after this year. So whatever my take on Seamus Heaneys work, this project will hopefully give me the opportunity to produce a 2d animation, most likely computer based, that will suit my final year portfolio.
