Audio

The intro audio was unexpected, i was researching car sounds (in the end i had to record them myself) and came across a very loud one that shocked me, it gave me an idea that at some point in the animation he could be shocked by the news of the accident and it would push the emotive design massively. however it didnt suit in the animation, and then i thought fading into the movie would kick the entire shock factor off to a fast start. however after id edited it (loud car, end suddenly, added two hand made noises) i thought it was too shocking.
i tested it out on others from the class and previous graduate friends and all although initially shocked, agreed it should stay. i was worried after weeks on such a touchy subject id gotten myself desensitised to the subject. surprisingly it was unanimous it should stay.
i had to get a very old clock for the sound to sound correct, but it took so long, i reused the same tick the entire scene and later in the animation

i couldnt get an old enough car to get the rickety or correct noise off, so i used a car (my brothers) that sounds the most neutral. i dont have a great ear for cars so im not sure if it sounds correct. but it seemed a common engine hum as opposed to the sport cars and family vans i had available to me,

i was disappointed how 'it was a hard blow' sounded when added, like all the others it took many takes, but it seemed perfect when finished recording, but by the time i was editing the audio in and realised its too harsh or unsympathetic it was too late to get the same voice again.

this scene ive been told sounds too messy and has too much going on, but i purposely made it so that heaneys senses were going on overdrive, and everything seemed horrible and loud and in his face but also they were white noise, nothing stood out in particular that he cared about

my favourite scene after editing, it has very little to it, the ambience in the background is alll it needed and the faintest cry. lowered to about 1% volume

the creaking noise i tried recording on drafty corridors and wooden steps and creaky stair cases, i recently moved into an old house (grand in its day but full of creaky floor boards and tall echoey hallways now) so i had an abundence of these to experiment with, and ended up finding the creakiest noise came from a door when i was recording a creak in a door for a previous scene where heaney first arrives home.
although i still think its needed and nobody else has said anything negative about it, i feel it could possibly be too much ? i suppose it depends on each individual
silence was key in many scenes but especially when hes finally alone, and has time to see and process his bereavement. i dont know if i successfully achieved this or not, but that was the intention. perhaps a third party perspective sees something else though
the cry is as best as i could get however if i was able to get proper wails or crys like intended id say that wouldve elevated the entire movie especially this scene in particular to a whole different level.

overall the sound as i had intended pushed the story along just as much as the animation did.
